Pray for prayer

Postby Greg on 02.01.2009 10:38 AM

I've been following one of the newer blogs Answering The Call by our Stevene. This weeks was titled "Prayer". When I got to the bottom, it was like being hit by a flash of light. This is the second to the last paragraph of the blog (I encourage you to read the whole thing)

Pray for prayer. That seems like an odd statement, but think about it. Prayer is the neglected purpose. Often it is left out of “the Purposes of the Church” both in statement and in fact. So let’s increase our own prayers, and pray that we would pray more often and more effectively, and the assemblies with which we are associated would pray more often and more effectively.

I'm asking that everyone who frequents this forum pray for prayer for the next week and then friday we'll post the things we've thought of/things that have been revealed to us.

Lord we pray for prayer. Father we thank You for giving us the opportunity to bring things to You in prayer and for the ability to ask You for help with our lives. Lord we ask that You help us make our prayer lives pleasing to You. We ask that if there are things that displease You, that You will show us those things and the things to replace them with. Thank You Lord.
Amen

Great idea Greg. Isn't wonderful how the Lord can lead us using anything !!! He was talking to me during listening to a devotion the other morning ! I just had to lift my eyes to the Lord and pray right there and then on the treadmill.( Luckily I was holding on !) But when you grab moments like that it just changes you. You don't have time to really think , you just following the leading of the Holy Spirit. Sometimes when you stop and think too much, fear sets in and you don't allow the Lord to lead.
Again thanks Greg will do.

How'd everyones week go? Did the Lord reveal anything to you about your/our prayer life?

So almost right away I came to realize that most of my time in prayer is spent praying for people. I have to add balance to this, not by taking away from what I do now, but by adding time that's just the Lord's. I don't ask often enough what He would like me to do, unless it is regards to specific things (I do that plenty). But honest to goodness "is there something I've missed"... I need to just spend more time letting Him do the talking.
I read the MLMinPray twitter today and saw practically the same thing wrote as a question by Ruth Ann. That was kinda weird.
I think I might move one of my Bible studies to my 10:30 break at work, most of you have gone to bed by then (remember I'm in Pacific Time). There's almost nothing on the boards then, I'm on from 8-8:30 and always check them before I go home at 12. I think it would be a good witness to do more stuff that involved me just reading from my Bible at my breaks. That's going to take a lot of disipline on my part, cause I really like spending break's on here.

Well how about just doing one break here and the rest in the Word It is weird I would ask that question. But don't we just spend allot of time just asking the Lord for stuff and not that same amount of time asking Him what He wants from us. I know that many times I am running on the treadmill, or atleast trying real hard too!, and something one of the preachers in my ears hit home. That is when you just sort of stop , in my head atleast, and ask the Lord what is it? Am I just not listening to you? Is this part of my life that is really messed up?I know that this journey with Kim has been a convicting one for sure . And that thru this I do allot more of asking Him questions and asking Him to simply lead, than to go down a list of wants.

Yeah I get those moments to, I listen to about 1-2 hours of sermons each night at work. I for the most part don't like what they listen to at work, so I always have my headphones in when I'm not directly working with someone.
The reason for moving the bible study to break is to free up all of my time when I get home from work. That would be the time I will spend with Him and in His word. I already spend part of lunch (after I've finished reading the boards and answering e-mails) reading the Bible online.
The sermons I listen to at work have provided some interesting notes on my tool box at work...for instance the big letters written in paint pen... "Worry about nothing, pray about everything!"

Did anyone else Pray for prayer? I'm going to do it this next week too, I'm pretty sure He has more to say.

I am excited that a comment which was, for me, almost a throw away line, a humorous play on words, has generated some deep thinking for you. You humble me.

I'll pray for you, and will you please pray for me? Pray that we will be responsible stewards of our bodies as the temple God has given us, as we move forward in our desire to Answer The Call. In Jesus’ Name! Answering The Call #19: Becoming a Smaller Man Progress Report
